From the moment I first heard this song by Ledisi, something stirred in me. The words resonated and spoke to a deep longing inside.

A yearning for a love bigger than Self. One I could both get lost in and find myself in simultaneously.

This type love could mend my broken heart and clear out the baggage past lovers left in their stead.

This type love would be both able and willing to show up in felt ways, keep promises made, be a soft place to land.

I wanted the kind of love and lover that was generous, curious, and steady.

It took me a few listens, through a few tears, but I finally heard it. The message meant especially for me. Since, I haven’t been able to listen to this song the same way.

I started singing the lyrics aloud to my younger self. I began to make the promises to me that I had hoped old lovers would, but had failed to.
